Ruth Roman (n e Gold) was born in Lynn at Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Lithuanian Jewish Mary Pauline and Abraham Roman. In her early years, Ruth Roman's carnival-barker father died and forced her mother, Mary Pauline (Gold), to become an attendant or cleaner so that they could remain alive. Ruth was born in a poor area of Boston Massachusetts where she attended high school. She left the school she was attending within two years of her education in order to pursue a career as an actor.
